Early Restoration of Driving Licence
Callan & Co. Solicitors offer a fixed price of €400 plus VAT for making an application for the early restoration of your driving licence in Counties Louth, Meath, Monaghan and Dublin.
If you have been disqualifed from driving you can, in certain circumstances, make an application to the District Court to have your licence ‘restored’ without the necessity of completing the full period of your disqualifcation.
You can make an application once half of the term of your disqualification has been served. If your application to the court is successful, the court will reduce your disqualification period to 2/3 of the original disqualification period or 2 years, whichever is greater.
For example, if Patrick has been disqualified for 3 years, he can apply for the restoration of his licence after 18 months. If his application is successful, the court will order that his licence is restored once 2/3 of his original disqualification period has been served. Therefore, he cannot drive straight after his application has been granted. He must wait until 2/3 of his disqualification has expired, i.e. 2 years from the date of commencement of the disqualification period.
If you wish to make an application for the restoration of your licence, you must contact the National Drivers Licence Service (N.D.L.S.) on 076 108 7880 and ask them for a letter confirming the following information:
- The date the disqualification period commenced;
- The length of the disqualification;
- The reason for the disqualification;
- The Court where the disqualification was imposed; and
- The name and station of the Garda who prosecuted you.
Please note that you cannot apply for the early restoration of your driving licence if the disqualification is for 2 years or less or the disqualification is not your first disqualification order within the previous 10 years.
